This course should be used in combination with face-to-face training to give a full, more thorough experience.

Understand the role of the first aid responder

Know how to assess an emergency situation and act appropriately

Know how to administer first aid to a casualty who is bleeding or has been burnt or scalded

Know the symptoms of back injuries and how to deal with such an injury

Know the symptoms of broken limbs and how to deal with them

Know the three categories of head injuries and how they are treated

Know the symptoms of poisoning and how to administer first aid to an individual who has been poisoned

Understand the AVPU code

Be able to provide first aid for an unresponsive casualty

Recognise the requirement for and administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Be able to recognise and administer first aid to a person who is choking

Be able to recognise and manage a casualty who is suffering from shock

Know how to provide first aid for minor injuries
